Spring is just around the corner again, and Texans can expect to receive a fair amount of rainfall. Areas around Houston, Texas, receive an average of 55.6 inches of rain, ranking it the fourth-rainiest major American city. Rain becomes stormwater runoff when it flows off roofs, streets, lawns, and parking lots and into surrounding bodies of water, such as streams, lakes, rivers, and oceans. Dirt, pet waste, and other pollutants get picked up from parking lots, sidewalks, and streets before contaminating waterways unless they are managed by stormwater facilities.

The good news is there are many stormwater products to prevent polluted water from entering our oceans and from flooding our streets. Del Zotto has been around for over 50 years as the industry leader in precast concrete products across America. We supply five stormwater products for different applications to channel rainwater. Read on to learn about our top five stormwater products to determine which best suits your needs.

Headwalls or Flared Wing Walls

This type of headwall is essential to reduce erosion, divert the flow of stormwater, inhibit seepage, retain any backfill, improve the aesthetic and hydraulic characteristics, and make the ends of the culvert structurally stable. Flared wing walls are typically installed at the ends of drains and culverts.

Del Zotto manufactures custom headwalls to accommodate your project’s needs. We can create various slopes, and any diameter ranging from 12 inches to 54 inches wide. Moreover, our headwalls can be built with energy dissipators to protect downstream areas from erosion by reducing the velocity of flow to safe limits.

Inlets

A stormwater inlet is used to direct stormwater into storm sewers or other underground drainage systems. They are essential for preventing flooding during heavy rainstorms. Del Zotto manufacturers three types of inlets:

  1. Curb Inlets

Curb inlets are used to help drain stormwater from streets and are usually a below-ground box structure with a vertical opening at the street level. Del Zotto offers various types:

  • Type BB
  • Type H-2
  • Type 3
  • TXDOT style
  • PCO inlet
  • PCU inlet
  • Stage 1

All inlets come in various sizes from 5 feet to 20 feet.

  1. Catch Basins and Grate Inlets

Catch basins and grate inlets are another style of inlets used to prevent flooding and channel stormwater. Most catch basins consist of a below-ground box or cylinder that is topped with a grate. These grates are large enough to handle more flow capacity and larger knockouts. Del Zotto’s precast catch basins are durable, and resilient, and come in different sizes:

  • 18 inches by 18 inches
  • 8 feet by 8 feet
  • Custom sizes available
    • Square
    • Rectangular
    • Round

Catch basins and grate inlets can be created with single or multiple grates.

  1. Wye Inlets and Area Inlet

These types of inlets are located within an area that drains into it. Del Zotto offers wye and area inlets in various sizes and styles:

  • 2 feet by 2 feet and larger
  • Type E
  • TXDOT PAZD style

Junction Boxes

Junction boxes provide solid and durable structures as drainage pipe intersections, allowing access to the storm sewer system. They can be built in various shapes, depending on the specifications and applications of the storm drain system:

  • Square
  • Rectangular
  • Round

Reinforced Box Culvert

Precast box culverts are used for material handling systems, building tunnels, and substituting a traditional bridge. They prevent major drainage issues and are designed to drain a larger volume of water than a standard concrete pipe. Our available sizes range from 3 feet to 12 feet wide. The most common uses of a reinforced box culvert include:

  • Storm drains
  • Culverts
  • Storm sewers

Del Zotto’s box culverts are created to meet applicable ASTM and AASHTO standards and local requirements. Furthermore, they are TXDOT approved.

Safety End Treatment

Safety End Treatments, or SET, are used to prevent erosion, channel stormwater, and help support driveways. They can be installed in pairs, placed at each end of reinforced concrete pipes buried under driveways, and more! Del Zotto’s SET products are designed with safety and durability in mind, and have many benefits:

  • Quick and easy to install
  • Provide superior durability for many years
  • Single piece construction
  • Available with galvanized cross pipes
  • Meet all TXDOT quality standards

Del Zotto Products manufactures safety end treatments in various sizes.
